Sailing World to have special class at Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regatta in Chicago

Saturday May 23rd 2009, Author: Stu Strueli, Location: United Kingdom
Sailing World magazine have announced there will be a start for a sportboat class at this year's Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regatta in Chicago. The sportboat class will have three days of racing out of Chicago Yacht Club's Belmont Station and will compete on Circle D off of Belmont Harbor. The dates of the Chicago NOOD are June 19-21.

We extend an invitation to all sportboats of similar size, including the Laser SB3, RS K6, Viper 640, Open 5.70 and 6.50, Ultimate 20, Melges 20, i550, Mini 650, Longtze, Shaw 650, Rocket 22 and any other similar designs. Please invite your fleet to join together with the other sportboat classes and race at this year's Chicago NOOD. The fleet will be scored according to elapsed time, within their respective one-design fleets, and for handicapping we will use the Portsmouth Rule using numbers agreed upon by class representatives. This will be a great way to showcase the growth of sportboats to the Chicago market and the entire Mid-West.

'The Chicago NOOD is only a month away, so hurry and make your plans now. We encourage all those within your particular class to register online. To help us get the word out, we can notify your owners by e-mail. All we need is an email list of your owners.

'Sailing World successfully ran a sportboat class division last September at the Larchmont NOOD Regatta in New York. Help us to make the sportboat class at the Chicago NOOD even bigger and better.

Thanks for your consideration and if you have any questions please contact our Event Manager Valerie Mey or Director of Marketing George Brengle.'
