RYS clinch it

A report from th efinal day of the Royal Lymington Challenge Cup

Saturday June 27th 2009, Author: Linda Dearing, Location: United Kingdom
Sunshine and a 10 knot breeze greeted the competitors for the first race of the day. 23 boats made the start line for the windward/leeward courses in Christchurch Bay with the 24th, Yes!, Adam Gosling needing a tow due to his lawn-mower engine! Both of the races were hotly contested:with the sea breeze kicking in and the wind rising to 15 knots for the second race. Half way through this race a fog blanket started to envelop the surrounding areas but the well structured plan of the Royal Limington PRO enabled all to return to terra firma before the fog smothered all.

All the skippers and their crew when they came ashore said that they really enjoyed the three days and will return to compete at the next Challenge Cup. The teams felt that the racing was very well run ,the skippers were always well informed and the social calendar was definitely a highlight of the three days. The Yacht Club was heaving the previous evening for the regatta dinner ,many heads were sore the following morning ,the uptake on the bacon rolls the next morning was not too high but the intake of orange juice was double the normal consumption.

The individual class trophies for the top two teams were made by Steve Batchelor a local stainless steel engineer. The glass trophy for the winning team was made by xxxxx
Prizes were also given by Seatrack (the main sponsor of the event) to the top two teams
