Last year the iShares Cup TV series was broadcast by 16 international TV networks across 119 territories reaching an audience of 199.9 million homes per programme, equating to 40 hours of programming each month.

This year, with the 2009 iShares Cup just underway, 24 international networks across 130 countries have already confirmed they will broadcast the 6-part TV series.

The 2009 iShares Cup TV series is produced by internationally renowned sports TV programmers Sunset+Vine|APP: “The take up so far has exceeded last year’s broadcasters already and we expect more and more networks to take up the series once they see the first output,” comments Richard Simmonds, Executive Producer, Sunset+Vine|APP.

Programme 1 of the iShares Cup TV series was filmed in Venice which saw the French team of Gitana Extreme – Groupe LCF Rothschild skippered by Yann Guichard put in a flawless performance to secure Round 1 ahead of America’s Cup Challengers BMW Oracle Racing. The half-hour programme includes an introduction to each of the 10 competing iShares Cup teams, a feature on the two female skippers, Britain’s Shirley Robertson and Carolijn Brouwer from Holland, plus French multihull maestro Loick Peyron tries his hand at making pizza!

CNN Mainsail hosted their June programme at the iShares Cup Venice event presented by Shirley Robertson, who also happens to compete in the iShares Cup series at the helm of Team iShares. This programme first goes on air in the UK on 18 June at 1330 and 1830 and repeats again on 20-21 June (see further details below).
