4.5 point lead for Royal Lymington YC after day one of their Challenge Cup

Changes to the course were decided by 8.20am in the morning, a race in the Solent was chosen, as opposed to a race in Christchurch Bay mainly due to the wind strength that was anticipated in the next two days .The wind was NE to start and veered to the E after a while (wind speed 8-10).

Spring tides dictated that wind against tide gave the competitors a challenge in the first half of the race but the second half wind with tide benefited all race goers.

The race between Round the Island Race winners Zafara and Flair V saw Jim Macgregor take the lead (Poole Yacht Club) in class 1 with Peter Schofield (Royal Lymington Yacht Club) coming in 6 points behind (still two days racing to go!!)
Jim Macgregor said: “This is a fantastic event and it has been a stunning day as somebody said lucky Jim got a lucky win, I’m looking forward to the next Royal Lymington Challenge Cup”

Andrew Gosling in Yes! was considering his win at the IRC championship today as he did not do as well as anticipated for his team (the Royal Yacht Squadron).

Prior to the results being placed on the board the competitors enjoyed a £1.00 a pint of beer from partners Fullers. After their beer more than 80 of the competitors were joining in on the communal curry evening at the Yacht Club(I will be reporting on that tomorrow)
