Sassenach pulls ahead

After day two of racing at the Swan European Regatta

Following the second day of racing at the Swan European Regatta, in ideal conditions on the Solent Ian Laing’s Swan 53 Sassenach has asserted the lead in Class A after securing two race wins today.

Competition in Class B is proving to be very competitive with the top of the leaderboard dominated by David Segel’s Swan 40 Christina and Harald Baum’s Swan 48 Elan. The Swan 40 holds a narrow one point lead going into Race Day 3. With the Baum family having taken the Swan European Champion title in 1987 edition of the event their team is keen to repeat the overall winning performance. Meanwhile Swan 43 Cisne has established a clear lead over the Class C fleet.

Owner of the leading Swan, Sassenach, and Vice Commodore of the Royal Yacht Squadron, Ian Laing commented, “With fantastic courses and perfect conditions for Solent racing, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed our first time racing the Swan 53 on home waters. It’s been great to have a chance to be so competitive in a fleet of Swans with an exceptional cruising yacht and enjoy the traditional atmosphere of the regatta.”

In the spirit of ClubSwan, the competing international Swan owners and guests will gather this evening at the exclusive Swan Owners’ Dinner at the Royal Yacht Squadron.
As one of the key social events that have become the tradition of Swan regattas, the Owners’ Dinner creates a welcome platform for the Swan owners to debate and boast about their results and plan their future regattas. This edition of the Owners’ Dinner is supported by Air Partner Private Jets, a frequent partner in the Nautor’s Swan event programme, and Atlante Marina di Scarlino, the official overseas property partner of the regatta.

With today’s weather conditions providing a spectactular racing environment for all participating Swan yachts, which range from 36 to 65 feet, we look forward to the two races scheduled for tomorrow which will once again run off of the prestigious Royal Yacht Squadron line.
