Class 40 program

Two long races today - plus the crew lists

Following last night's skipper's briefing at the Royal Southern Yacht Club in Hamble so more details of today's first Class 40 World Championship have become available.

The racing is to be held over the next three days. Today there will be two long inshore races, the first start gun being at 10:30. Tomorrow the plan is to hold a race around the Isle of Wight, and while a final decision is being left until tonight to make the call, it is likely to be in an anticlockwise direction (opposite to the Round the Island Race) with a gate at the Needles to shorten course if required, although with 20 knots forecast, rain and a front coming through, this seems unlikely. With an 0800 start, the crews should be comfortably back to see the start of the final Ashes test.

Finally on Friday the plan is to hold three shorter races in the Solent. Again solid breeze is forecast for this.
