Puerto Calero’s TP52 World Championship and VII Trofeo César Manrique will be retransmitted live through the Internet and the big screens located in the race village thanks to the same cutting-edge simulation technology used in the America’s Cup.
Puerto Calero will certainly become the sailing world’s center of attention on 14-27 October, not only for the world-class level of the competing crews but also because of the latest and most innovative broadcasting technologies available. Virtual Eye, the company that brought the real-time virtual simulation of racing in the America’s Cup, will also be in charge of retransmitting live all the events taking place during the next two weeks in Lanzarote.
The more than 3,000 visitors expected in the race village will be able to watch all races on the big screens. The VII Trofeo César Manrique Puerto Calero and the TP52 World Championship 2008 will also be retransmitted online using the Virtual Eye technology at the official website . Access will be free and open to all internet users worldwide.
Virtual Eye’s 3D simulation and animation will almost reach reality and every single detail of the Lanzarote island, the Puerto Calero facilities and, of course, each GP42 and TP52 yacht, will be meticulously reproduced. The GPS trackers installed on the boats, the buoys and the committee boat will allow an almost real-time (less than 20 seconds delayed) tracking of each move and maneuver of the fleet. In addition, a webcam located in the marina will be broadcasting live images from all the action taking place in the pontoons.
As a result, Puerto Calero establishes itself not only among the world’s sport elite but also becomes a showcase of the latest video and communication technology.
