French IRC Nationals
Thursday January 18th 2007, Author: James Boyd, Location: France
After announcing the launch of the first French IRC Nationals last October, so Philippe Baetz, new President of the UNCL and Sirius Evenments' Manfred Ramspacher, made their partnership official today with the signing of a three year agreement.
Actioned by the previous UNCL President Didier Dardot, the event will fall within Deauville International Sailing Week where IRC racing will take place alongside the various one designs competing.
The French IRC Nationals will complement the existing UNCL trophies - the Trophée Atlantique, Trophée Manche, Trophée Méditerranée.
The IRC craft will be grouped into 3 rating classes (0.950-1.010/1.011-1.070/1.071-1.280), or roughly speaking 30-35ft, 35-40ft and 40+ft size bands. Trophies will be awarded to the winners in each class by the UNCL.
The location of Deauville makes it highly accessible for crews from northern Europe and the UK. Of particular interest is the participation of the winners of the last Rolex Commodores' Cup, the French team skippered by Gery Trentesaux.
