31 Farr 40s line up for pre-worlds in Hankø, Norway next week

The Scandinavian Championship for Farr 40 starting at Hankø, Norway next week has attracted a fleet of no less than 31 boats. The quality of the crew,  many arriving straight from Valencia indicates a spectacular event unlike anything seen in Norway previously.

A number of the Farr 40 will be crewed by skippers, helmsmen or tacticians from America´s Cup teams. Vasco Vascotto, Mascalzone Latino's skipper will resume the position as tactician on Nerone, Sten Mohr who replaced Chris Dickson as helmsman on BMW Oracle in the last race of the Louis Vuittons Cups semifinal serves as tactician on Barking Mad (Jim Richardson's team also includes BMW Oracle sailors Mark Bradford and Zach Hurstand). The tactician on Desafio Espanol John Cutler takes a similar position on Le Renard and the tactician on Aleph, Tierry Peponnet was also part of the afterguard on Areva Challenge.

Vincenzio Onorato, the Owner of Mascalzone Latino will be sailing his Farr 40 with the same name at Hankø.

There are also rumours that Tommaso Chieffi and Paolo Chian from Team Shosholoza, and Jesper Bank, skipper and helmsman for the German United Internet Team will be racing at Hankø.

Nanoq  Crownprince Frederik of Denmark will have Bouwe Bekking as his tactician.
Local favourites are Eivind Astrup long campaigned Norwegian Steam, Happy Happy with Finn and Tornado Olympian Per Arne Nilsen and Ocean Warrior, Sverre Valeur. Astrup is a familiar face in the Farr 40 class, but for the other Norwegians, the Hankø regatta will mark their debut in this highly competitive class.

20 of the boats arrived Fredrikstad by a specialized carrier from Porto Cervo on the 21st of June. The racing starts 5th July and will run until 8th July
