RC 44s go lake racing

Next up Lugano, Switzerland on 20 June

The fourth stage of the RC 44 Championship Tour will take place in Lugano, Switzerland, over 20-23 June. It will be the first ever RC 44 event held on a lake, proving once again how easily the Class can adapt to any venue. Indeed, all the boats involved have been transported and assembled thanks to the RC 44 custom container, saving transportation and logistical costs.

Wind conditions are usually quite light in Lugano, which will certainly be interesting after the Oeiras Cup recently held in Lisbon in strong winds. However the RC 44s have been built strongly enough to sail on the oceans in heavy winds, but are also designed for the majority of venues on the planet, where the winds are usually light to moderate. Their performance is outstanding in light wind, and it will certainly prove to be an excellent lake boat.

Four teams will participate in the Lugano Yacht Club Cup: Team Omega, Team Aqua (the current leaders of the RC 44 Championship Tour), Mascalzone Latino and Team Magia (Light Bay).

The event will be highlighted by the presence of Paul Cayard (five America’s Cup, two Whitbread / Volvo Ocean Races, one Olympic Game), who will sail against Russell Coutts for an extraordinary show between two of the best sailors in the world. Recently back from Valencia, Vincenzo Onorato will also attend the event.
