Excitement is building at La Marina di Scarlino for the final weekend of racing of the “Memorial Giorgio Falck” organized by the Club Nautico Scarlino and reserved to the Swan 45 Class. American yacht
Vixen and her owner Dick Weismann are in the lead after eight races at the end of the first round which took place in February. But the Italians are hot on their tail:
Startrading (Stefano Masi) follows ten points behind, then come
Talj (Vittorio Ruggiero),
Atlantica (Carlo Perrone),
T.Too Pilot (Francesco Martino) and
Kora 3 (Enrico Scerni). Andrea Casale, a famous Italian sailor, will be on board
Kora 3 as a tactician. He has just returned from the Rolex Sydney – Hobart which he sailed on
DSK-Comifin, recently elected 2006 Italian boat of the year.
Eight races are scheduled between the 9th and 11th of March and the weather forecast calls for difficult, windy and highly spectacular conditions. The first gun will go off at 11 a.m. on Friday and to wrap it up on Sunday afternoon the prize giving ceremony will take place on the docks of La Marina di Scarlino. This weekend is dedicated to the memory of Giorgio Falck and the true guest of honor will be the Rolly Go. She is the historical boat on which the world renowned industrialist participated in the 1977-1978 Whitbread Round the World Race. The Rolly Go will arrive at La Marina di Scarlino thanks to the support of the Falck family who will also be present at the inauguration of the Club Nautico Scarlino Sailing School dedicated to the memory of Giorgio Falck.
On a separate race course the Club Nautico Scarlino has organized another Grade 4 match race, the fourth of the seven scheduled for this season. Eight teams coming from different parts of Italy will face off in the bay of Follonica. On Sunday March 11th the dingy fleet will also be racing.
In total over 300 sailors will be competing on three different courses next weekend. This confirms once again the organizational capacities of the Club Nautico Scarlino and excellence of Maremma’s crystal blue waters.
