Heineken, known for presenting trend setting musical performances around the globe, is proud to announce the headline performance of Damian Marley and Stephen Marley, for the final night of this years 27th St. Maarten Heineken Regatta.
Heineken St. Maarten, in cooperation with the Sint Maarten Yacht Club, is proud to present the globally acclaimed Marley brothers as part of the celebration for its world-renown St.Maarten Heineken Regatta. This Regatta boasts the distinguished title of the largest sailing race in the Caribbean. The outdoor concert event is scheduled to conclude the festivities on Sunday, March 4 2007 on the white sands of Kim Sha Beach.
The St Maarten Heineken Regatta, whose motto is 'Serious Fun', is already famous for the High-Energy parties that surround the Word-Class racing.
The Heineken Regatta’s featured performer Damian Marley (born July 21, 1978 in Kingston, Jamaica) is a Grammy-winning reggae artist and is the youngest male child (or 'veteran,' as stated in the song "Me Name Jr. Gong") of reggae legend Bob Marley. Damian's nickname is Junior Gong which is derived from his father's nickname of Tuff Gong. Damian has been performing since the age of 13. He shares with most of the Marley family a full-time career in music. Unlike his brothers and sisters, however, his musical specialty is 'DeeJaying', the Jamaican style of 'rapping'.
Damian’s brother, Stephen Marley (born April 20, 1972 in Wilmington, Delaware) is a Jamaican musician and also the son of reggae legend Bob Marley. Stephen was part of the reggae group Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers with his siblings Ziggy, Cedella, and Sharon, and took lead vocals on the track A Who A Say. He also featured on Erykah Badu's album Mama's Gun in the song In Love With You. Stephen produced his brother, Damian Marley's three solo albums, most notably 2005's Welcome to Jamrock, where he was featured on the tracks All Night, Pimpa's Paradise, For The Babies and Hey Girl.
Known for their energetic, inspiring live performances that infuse mostly reggae and dancehall, the Marley brothers will participate in the largest island wide annual event on Sint Maarten/Saint Martin.
"The Marley brothers will bring the Jamaica-rooted Reggae music onto one stage, with a live performance that will unite the spirit of the performers and the family legacy with the energy of the St Maarten audience. I’m thrilled to present Damian & Stephen Marley performing together to the people of St Maarten for the first time," states John Leone, General Manager of Heineken St. Maarten.
The Marley brother’s performance at the 27th St. Maarten Heineken Regatta will be co-produced by JL Promotions. "This performance will be one not to be missed, it’s a rare opportunity to see the Marley brothers perform together! Stephen Marley will be releasing his new album shortly after the Regatta, so we will hear some of his new tracks. Damian Marley, one of the most exciting Reggae acts of the business today, performed here earlier last summer. And now everybody on Si Maarten can see this great artist perform for free at Kim Sha Beach. We are proud to bring these celebrated artists to St. Maarten and the Regatta," said Judith Mouial and Leroy Richardson of JL Productions.
The Marley brother’s performance will be complimented with the best Regional and Local musicians; stay tuned for the announcement of more artist
