2006 Rolex Farr 40 World Champion Vincenzo Onorato and his team on
Mascalzone Latino are set for a rematch with Matt Allen’s
Ichi Ban who came a close second to Onorato in September this year.
“We’re looking forward to seeing Vincenzo and the team back in Sydney and hope we can reverse the results from the worlds. Having Vincenzo and Brett Neill from New Zealand racing with the Australian fleet makes the racing all the more challenging for the Australian class members”, commented Allen.
Keen to defend his win of the 2005 Rolex Trophy One Design Farr 40 class event, Onorato and his team will be back racing with the Australian fleet on December 8-10. Racing with Onorato will be long time crew member Adrian Stead who recently joined the Mascalzone Latino America’s Cup campaign.
Also in the Mascalzone Latino crew will be a number of the team members who won the world champion title with Onorato in Newport Rhode Island in September this year after also winning the Rolex Farr 40 European Champion title in July.
Twelve Farr 40’s are expected to line up at the Rolex Trophy regatta with Lang Walker’s Kokomo, the winner of the Savills SORC regatta held on the weekend, eager to make it two in a row. With an impressive scorecard of 1,1,1,1,3,1 Walker dominated the Farr 40 fleet with class newcomer Martin Hill’s Estate Master taking out second place and Michael Milne and the Blacksnake crew securing third.
“We had a fantastic day on Saturday and managed to have a pretty good one on Sunday. We weren’t crossed at all on Saturday and the team worked well”, said Kokomo mainsheet trimmer Richard Allanson.
Walker currently leads the Farr 40 Australian Circuit on 14 points with Don Telford in close contention on 17 and a tie between Ivan Wheen and Michael Milne for third on 20. There are three events including the Rolex Trophy Series left on the 2006-07 Farr 40 Australian circuit.
