J/Boats has announced the launch of the first European J/109 EuroCup, to be held as part of Deauville International Sailing Week on 7-11 June 2006.

Launched in 2001, the J/109 is a 10.85m racer-cruiser, this has developed rapidly and today has around 15 fleets dotted aorund the US and Europe.

In Great Britain over 50 boats race on a regular basis and J/109s are found racing in most big events and is one of the most popular 35 footers.

The invitation of the class to Deauville's 'One Design' Week', will be an integral part of the J/109's one design calendar, alongside the J/80s and J/105s.

It is hoped creating this first ever EuroCup will boost the participation in the J/109. Jeff Johnstone, President of J Boats, is pleased to announce the participation of a crew coming all the way from the US with the express intention of racing in Deauville.

Along with the Melges 24 Nationals and the Mumm 30 European Championship, Deauville International Week can now lay claim to a third top level series within a series for its début edition.

Launched on 3 October 2005 by Philippe Augier, Mayor of Deauville, the Deauville Yacht Club and Sirius Evénements, and organised in partnership with the French Sailing Federation (FFV), Deauville International Week will showcase the top level international one design series. Classes invited to the event are the Melges 24, J/80, Mumm 30, J/105, J/109 and 3 Open classes comprising the 40, 45 and 52 footers, which will be racing in elapsed time.
