The 25th edition of the Ermenegildo Zegna Trophy-Spring 2006 Regattas drew to a close with Ernesto Gismondi’s glorious
Edimetra VI, with Alberto Leghissa at the helm, taking the day.
Even with just a tenth place in the fourth and final race of the Ermenegildo Zegna Trophy organised by the Italian Yacht Club, Edimetra VI won the IMS ORC Club category followed by Pierluigi Loro Piana’s My Song with Lorenzo Bressani and Stefano Spangaro on board. Finally, after the umpteenth duel with Alfa Romeo, Wild Oats XI concluded the three days at Portofino in third place.
Among the Swan 45 class, Leopoldo Gavito’s astounding Ay! Ay! Ay! won the last race and took first place for the class. Stefano Polti’s Mintaka went away disappointed as it lost the place of honour by just one point because of a 14th place in the fifth race. Lorenzo Bortolotti at the helm of his Swantastic came in third.
Tango, Carlo Sama’s 80-footer with Luca Bassani at the helm, won the Wally Yachts category, leaving behind Jean Charles Decaux’s J One and Tomas Bscher’s Open Season. Today’s race was won by Claus-Peter Offen’s Y3K.
At the awards ceremony held at the summer residence of the Italian Yacht Club, Paolo Zegna presented Ernesto Gismondi, owner of Edimetra, and Alberto Leghissa the helmsman with the Zegna trophy. The winners of each class - IMS ORC Club, Wally Yachts and Swan 45 - received the Zegna Cup.
