Victory Challenge has recruited yet more America’s Cup experience: Jonathan Taylor, 31, who sailed with GBR Challenge in Auckland, will now joint the crew for the next round of competition, the Malmö-Skåne Louis Vuitton Acts 6 & 7. He will be the second GBR Challenge sailor in the Swedish team, who has Richard Sydenham, 29, also on board.
"There are plenty of good quality Englishmen that are both solid sailors and have experience in the America ’s Cup. It’s a shame there wasn’t another GBR Challenge. We're all the happier to have a number of them in our team. Richard Sydenham was the first, Jonathan Taylor will be the second and there’s a few more in the pipeline”, says Magnus Holmberg, skipper and helmsman for Victory Challenge.
”In addition to being a good sailor, Jonathan also has a lot of knowledge in what we call running rigging. That means all the sheets, where he’ll be working together with our midbowman, Martin Krite, who’s in charge," continues Holmberg.
Jonathan Taylor has experience in keel boats of all sizes. He’s won the Fastnet Race with Nokia, he was on board the successful Mumm 36 that won the Admirals Cup 1999 and he took part in SEB's Volvo Ocean Race venture for a while before joining GBR Challenge for the America ’s Cup in Auckland 2002/2003.
”Victory Challenge is a good team and it's been easy to become part of it. I'm looking forward to being part of another America ’s Cup venture with this team”, says Taylor.
