Alinghi helmsman in the driving seat at the Heat-La Sfida match racing in Trieste

This afternoon the first flight in the Heat-La Sfida match racing were sailing. Heat-La Sfida is a regatta reserved for America’s Cup teams and is being sailed in Trieste until Sunday 11 September.

This year the teams include Alinghi with Peter Holmberg at helm, Luna Rossa Challenge with two complete crew captained by Francesco De Angelis and by James Spithill, Mascalzone Latino Capitalia Team with Jes Gram Hansen helmsman, +39 Challenge with Iain Percy and the South Africans on Team Shosholoza with Chris Law at the wheel. The schedule is for a round robin to be held until Friday, Saturday semi-finals and on Sunday the final.

First out today were Alinghi, skipper by Peter Holmberg against Mascalzone Latino-Capitalia Team with Jes Gram Hansen helmsman. The Swiss won this but the match was very hard and proved that Mascalzone Latino’s technical skill is growing.
The second match was between +39 Challenge team, captained by Iain Percy, and Alinghi and again the Swiss dominated the race.

Tomorrow the first match is +39 Challenge vs. Mascalzone Latino; start at 11:00.
