Racing cut short as wind dies on day two of the Bermuda International Invitational Race Week

After Monday’s blustery winds, racing today was cut short as boats drifted on a glassy Great Sound. Racers on both the keelboat and dinghy courses only got in one round today when two were scheduled for Etchells and Snipes and three for al the other classes.

The wind on the Bravo course barely held for one round with the winners finding good wind lines early and gaining separation over the bulk of the fleet.

Laser standings ended in a tie for first after today’s race. Bret Wright and Malcolm Smith and knotted in first with 11 points. Sara Lane Adderley is a distant third with 22 points.

The snipes saw Michel Irgens in first with 13 points and his brother Stephen in second with 16. Leo Murphy is third with 18.

On the Alpha course the wind barely held for most of the finishers but J/105 Addiction driven today by Adam Barboza had to barely sneak down the last leg to finish before the wind totally disappeared for good.

Tony Parker stayed in first in the J/24s with a third on the day and 12 points. Todd Olson got a two and gained to within three points at 15 and Suart Jardine got his first ace and is locked in a tie with Mike Lewis at 22 points each.

The novice team of Mike Conlin and John Bingham from Sumerser UK got their first win today in the IOD class. They represent an emerging IOD fleet in Falmouth England. Jon Pope continued to lead the IODs with 15 points followed by Charles Van Voorhis at 20. Bruce Dyson is 13 points back in third with 33 points.

Tom Cotes had the three bullets on his birthday and the three on Sunday but came third today. He still leads the series with 6 points and will be hard to beat. John McLeod of Canada took a first today and solidified his second place position. The Brewin/William’s team on Not Mine came third and are two points behind Hot Water.

Meanwhile in the Etchells Class it was business as usual for Peter Bromby with another first. Tim Lynch got second and climbed into second place while Tim Patton dropped to third one point behind.
