Cammas dominates again

Groupama has near perfect score-line at ORMA Grand Prix de Marseille Metropole

This Sunday, Franck Cammas, had such a lead in the Grand Prix de Marseille Metropole that he didn't need to sail the final race.

Cammas, from nearby Aix en Provence, dominated all three races again this Sunday making his score-line for the Grand Prix a string of a bullets with the exception of one fourth place.

Behind Groupama, the competition was wide open between Michel Desjoyeaux on Geant, Frédéric Le Peutrec on Gitana II, Pascal Bidegorry on Banque Populaire and Armel Le Cléac’h at the helm of Foncia.

Michel Desjoyeaux made a superb comeback by scoring three second places in a row, just ahead of frontrunner Frédéric Le Peutrec, the Gitana 11 skipper being less aggressive this Sunday. In the first race of the day, Pascal Bidegorry suffered a considerable blow when Banque Populaire was becalmed while leading the race dropping him from first to last.

On the race course, the tack towards Pointe Rouge was favourable but the fleet had to head in closer towards Frioul in line with the shift from the thermal breeze. In the end it was Gitana 11 which snatched second.

Franck Cammas has racked up eleven Grand Prix victories since his arrival on the ORMA circuit in 1995, just a single win down on Loïck Peyron leader since 2002. The next ORMA Grand Prix is in Vigo (Spain),
