The British Farr 52 Bear of Britain is just about to go back in the water in Cowes following a full re-spray and revamp, ready for her busy season ahead. Her crew search is still underway, with many applicants including some from New Zealand, Australia, Sweden, France and Ireland keen to be a part of the exciting new venture being run in conjunction with Skandia, the “Skandia Yachting Academy.”

The Academy has been organised to offer keen young sailors the opportunity to gain experience with the squad of an exclusive racing yacht like Bear. In order to qualify, applicants need to be less than 25-years-old, and able to complete rigorous physical trials, which are set to run from the 31st March to the 19th April in Cowes. The final selection will be made at Peter de Savary’s exclusive Bovey Castle, on the 1st and 2nd June 2004. Those lucky enough to be selected will join the squad of Bear, which will be competing in all the major regattas in the UK, including the Commodores Cup, Cowes Week and Cork Week. For the trials basic accommodation will be provided, as will all meals and a crew uniform.

There is still time to get an application in for this season’s squad, as the closing date is not until the 6th March. For more information visit the Bear of Britain website at http://www.bearofbritain.com and download an application form.
