The 2005 European Championship at the Yacht Club Punta Ala in Punta Ala, Italy on September 14 - 17 will cap an exciting European season of racing. The Worlds have just been confirmed for June 1 - 4 in La Trinité sur Mer in France, followed by the Tour Voile circumnavigating France and the Admiral's Cup in England during July, along with great regional One Design seasonal racing circuits in England, the Netherlands, France and Italy.

Class Secretary Renee Mehl enthusiastically endorsed the venue for the Europeans. "Punta Ala is a great choice for the regatta. Our One Design classes have had many events there over the past nine years - the Mumm 36 Worlds, Mumm 30 and Farr 40 Europeans, and Mumm 30/Farr 40 circuit events amongst others. The quality of racing has always been fantastic, and the Yacht Club Punta Ala are gracious hosts". Punta Ala is located on the western coast of Italy, racing is on the Med with a backdrop of the mountainous Elba Island rising from the sea.

Peter de Ridder is the current European Champion, winning the difficult 10 race series hosted by the Royal Southern Yacht Club in June. He will face stiff competition to retain the title this year. Intense windward-leeward racing over four days at the end of the summer against well-practiced competitors is sure to provide a great show for sailing fans.
