One of the oldest, and largest, fleets in the UK, the X One Designs, have, at their recent AGM voted to accept the use of the Tacktick Micro Compass in their fleets. Designed in 1909, around 170 XODs are regularly raced in five locations around the Solent, and the fleet is the largest one design class racing at Cowes Week each year.
The Tacktick Micro Compass is a tactical digital compass which helps sailors understand wind shift patterns during racing by providing simple, precise and accurate wind shift and heading information. The instrument is a self-contained unit which is both waterproof and wireless using solar energy to power it.
The XOD fleet has followed in the footsteps of the Dragons, Etchells, Swallows and Darings in deciding to accept the use of digital compasses in their fleets. Commenting on the recent XOD rule change, James Hewitt, from Tacktick said, “We are already receiving significant interest from XOD owners wishing to purchase a Micro Compass following the rule change, installation of the instrument is easy on the XOD either with or without our mast bracket.”
The Micro Compass retails at £199.95 and can be viewed on the Tacktick stand at the forthcoming Schroders London Boat Show, 6-16 January 2005, stand S2300 in the South Hall.
