Mumm 30 Worlds return to France

La Trinite-sur-Mer 2005 to be held in La Trinite sur Mer

The Mumm 30 Class Association have announced that the Société Nautique de la Trinité-sur-Mer, France will host the next World Championship on 1-4 June, 2005. The 125 year old club has a grand tradition for hosting some very prestigious events, including One Ton Cup Championships and Tour Voile stopovers. La Trinité is also home to many of France's 60ft ORMA trimaran fleet and hosts the SPI Ouest multi-class regatta where up to 500 boats race each year.

An eleven race series with no discard will determine the next Mumm 30 World Champion. The winner takes home the Royal Canadian Yacht Club trophy. The event alternates between Europe and North America every year to support the two major fleets in the world. The first World Championship of the Class was held in Marseilles, France in 1997 in honour of class naming rights sponsor, Champagne Mumm.

40-45of these fast, fun boats are expected to compete in the ninth running of the World Championship. No one has won this event more than once, so that honour is still up for grabs. Current World Champion Richard Perini from Australia will be back with hopes of taking the trophy home again. He will face strong contenders from the Italian fleet - who had a stranglehold on the title for the past four years. The French fleet will be competing on home waters, and most of their boats will also race in the Tour Voile at the end of June. Competitors for the Tour and the Admiral's Cup in mid-July, would be remiss not to hone their skills against the best in the world.

European World Council members Louis Browne and Jimmy Pahun spoke on behalf of the French class, saying that they are honoured to host the World Championship event and will guarantee a great time to all who come to compete.
