The St. Francis Yacht Club has announced dates for the 2005 Big Boat Series presented by Rolex. Although traditionally held over the second weekend in September, the 2005 Rolex Big Boat Series will take place on 15-18 September. As one of the world’s premier sailboat racing events, it attracts large one-design fleets as well as high-profile boats and sailors seeking the challenge of competing on legendary San Francisco Bay.

"In September 2005, San Francisco Bay will see two major international events, the St. Francis Rolex Big Boat Series and the Etchells World Championship," said Norman Davant, regatta developer for StFYC. "In the interests of both regattas, St. Francis has decided to move the Big Boat Series presented by Rolex to allow for local, national and international talent to attend both prestigious events."

Over 100 boats are expected to compete in one-design and IRC handicap classes for class honours as well as a chance to take home one of six perpetual trophies - Richard Rheem, St. Francis, City of San Francisco, Atlantic, Keefe-Kilborn Memorial and the Commodore’s Cup. Specially engraved Rolex timepieces also will be awarded to the perpetual trophy winners.

Racing takes place on San Francisco Bay within viewing range of Pier 39 and the Marina District, between Treasure Island and the Golden Gate Bridge, with the finish line set off the St. Francis Yacht Club Race Deck.

The Big Boat Series presented by Rolex joins other prestigious Rolex-sponsored events in 2005 including the Giraglia Rolex Cup, Rolex Farr 40 World Championship, Rolex Fastnet Race, Maxi Rolex Cup, Rolex Middle Sea Race, the Rolex Miami OCR and the Rolex Sydney Hobart Race.
