Strange weather causes cancellation

No offshore race at Copa del Rey

The effects of a small atmospheric depression located in Mallorca, altered the normal development of today’s off shore race, forcing the Committee to cancel the race for the three categories.

IMS 500 had started a few minutes before and, IMS 600, after a first general call, were beginning a new start process, when suddenly the wind shifted 180 degrees, changing to north direction with more than 40 knots of intensity. In that moment the Committee decided to postpone the race. The stormy shower lasted several minutes and after that the sun has shone again in the bay.

Due to weather conditions, the Race Committee waited to decide the holding of a short race in the afternoon. At 3:30 p.m., the Committee has opted to lower the postponement in earth in order to get the fleet to sea and check the possibilities to carry out another race of fewer miles. Once in the water, due to the wind variability the Race Committee finally decided to cancel the race.

As the off shore race has not been carried out, tomorrow - instead of a rest day for all participants, there are chances that one or two races might be held.

IMS 500. In this category everything is uncertain. There is a small advantage of Caixa Galicia before Tau Ceramica-UBS, CAM and Bribón; in a good position to face the second part of the regatta.

IMS 600. The equality in the first three regattas and the continuous changes in the lead positions, make difficult to confirm a prediction. Near Miss, Telefónica Movistar, Zurich , Lexus and Philatelic Forum, are the best classified with options for all of them.

IMS 670. Without holding today’s race, we can affirm that in this category, leader´s changes have been due to the penalizations: first day Vertigo , second day the Vindio . Now, Polaris World is the first classified, followed by Gaggenau , second and Vertigothird.
