Anthony Romano, former Managing Director and General Manager of Calvin Klein Europe, is one of the latest additions to the Luna Rossa team, who are preparing themselves to make a bid for the 32nd Americas Cup in 2007.
Anthony Romano in the role of General Manager, will look after the day to day operations, and team management along side Francesco De Angelis. Giacomo Ovidi will now occupy the role of Managing Director of the Company.
In a statement Mr Romano said: "I decided to change direction and enter into the competitive yachting arena, with Luna Rossa, one of the top teams vying for the Cup. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity, as well as being professionally stimulating. We have associated with ourselves with the prestigious Yacht Club Italiano and we have a good mix of experienced sailors from prior campaigns, as well as young upcoming world-class sailors. We have also further strengthened the design team of Luna Rossa with internationally-acclaimed professionals. Along with our historical
sponsor Prada, we are finalising discussions with other major corporations and we are confident we will fully meet funding requirements in a short time. I am looking forward to this new role and working with Francesco De Angelis in this bid for the 32nd America's cup in 2007".
Anthony Romano previously held senior positions in Deloitte and Touche, as well as Timberland Europe, before joining the European Head Office of Calvin Klein in Milan, initially as CFO and then, at the age of 33, becoming Managing Director, a position he held for five years. He is a first generation Italian born in New Zealand; married to Diana, he has a daughter, Victoria. Anthony is also an avid sportsmen and sailor.
