After six straight triumphs, Knut Frostad on Academy has finally conceded a win in the Nokia Oops Cup. Klas Nylof on HiQ claimed the victory of the Copenhagen City Race regatta on Monday 21 June, with the series 2-1-2.

“We sailed in more open waters, without island and boats blocking the way. We focused totally on winning,” Nylof says. HiQ is larger than three of the other trimarans, making the yacht harder to sail according to Nylof: “sailing this boat is like night and day in comparison.”

Nylof made an important crew change for this race. Experienced offshore tactician and weather guru Roger Nilsson, vital for the ocean races, was replaced with Magnus Woxén. whose physical strength was needed during the course races.

To be fair, it has to be said that another victory for Academy was not far away. The Norwegians, having dominated the Nokia Oops Cup so far, won the first course race in Copenhagen. But in the second race their gennaker unfurled on an upwind leg, immediately relegating them to last spot.

“I must stress that Knut [Frostad] has deserved all his victories. Academy has performed exceptionally well,” Nylof says.

The next challenge for the trimarans in the Nokia Oops Cup is Sweden’s major offshore race, the Gant Round Gotland Race, starting on 4 July.

“The ocean races are the most important to us. We want to redeem ourselves after our performance in the Sjaelland Rundt race, and will do everything within our power to win the Round Gotland Race, on home ground,” Klas Nylof says.
