Light winds for Twilight opener

Simon Forbes reports on the new Royal Southampton YC series

The Royal Southampton Yacht Club’s Twilight series race two was held on Thursday 13th May which saw a light breeze which rarely climb above five knots. The Race Management Team set the Committee Boat near Netley.

Class 1, saw John Danby sailing the Prima 38 Sailplane take line honours and victory on corrected time by four minutes from the Melges 24 Eat My Shorts (Marcus Gabriel). In third place was Hugh Fogerty sailing the X-332 X’Tortion.

Class 2 saw Andrew Maunder’s X372 Xtrovert take line honours and victory on corrected time by one minute from Stephanie Bateson skippering First 31.7 Starspray. Steve Sault sailing Sigma 33 Hooligan was third.

Class 3 saw Cuan Marsh’s Hunter Bolero Question of Balance take line honours but was beaten into second place by Richard Walker’s Micro Gem Urchin II. Third place went to Anthony Huggett’s Feeling 326 Sylvie.

In the Multihull Class, George Burn’s Farrier F27 Smokey Bear took line honours and victory on corrected time by 13 minutes from Simon Forbes’ Dragonfly 800 Scooby III with Ben Goodland’s Strider Tigger third.

The RSYC Cherbourg Double starts on Friday 28th May. RSYC Twilight Series continues on Thursday 20 May and Summer Sunday Series continues 23 May.
