Baird takes control

As the semi-finallists, including Mark Campbell-James are drawn at the Garda Trentino match racing

There were very different conditions from yesterday’s on Lake Garda, today, for day three of the Garda Trentino ISAF grade 1 open Match Race, organised by the Fraglia
Vela Riva in conjunction with the International Sailing Federation (ISAF).

The competitors had to tackle light and shifty winds under pouring rain and the Race Committee was able to complete round robin two.

The top four skippers to proceed to the semifinals are:
- Ed Baird (USA), 16 points
- Mathieu Richard (France), 15 points
- Jesper Radich (Denmark), 14 points
- Mark Campbell-James (Great Britain), 10 points

Paolo Cian, who completed the round robins tied with Campbell-James, was unable to qualify for the semifinals as he lost both direct matches against Campbell-James.

Current match racing world champion Ed Baird, second in the ISAF world rankings, sailed very well today, winning five matches out of five. He completes the rounds at the top of the fleet, with a total of 16 wins and only 2 losses.

Danish Jesper Radich, third in the world rankings, slipped into third position overall, with 14 wins and 4 losses. Radich was overtaken by Mathieu Richard, fifth in the ISAF rankings, who completed the rounds with a total of 15 wins and three losses.

Racing will end tomorrow, Saturday, May 1st, with the semfinals, finals and petit finals. Each will be sailed as a knock out series, first to score three points.
