Sunday July 4th 2004, Author: Corinne Druey, Location: France
The 2004 8m World Championships got under only at 4.09pm after a long wait for the wind... But the eventual show, with all the different class was worth the wait here on Lake Geneva.
The modern class yachts very quickly took the lead. Lafayette reached the weather mark after 16 minutes. By the second mark rounding Sarissa had taken the lead, but finally it was the Swiss boat Aluette that won the first race of the 2004 World Championship.
In the Vintage class, the Italian yacht Bona won. Peter Groh, Bona's happy owner is also owner of Froya, which leads the preliminary Sira Cup ranking.
Finally, Silhouette was first in gaff rigged class.
Tomorrow two races are schulede - the first at 10.00 am.
