Thursday May 13th 2004, Author: Maguelonne Turcat, Location: France
With a participation deliberately limited to 50 boats including the Swan 45, the 6th Porquerolles Week, taking pace on 19-23 May, promises to be exceptional. This event is organised by two yacht clubs and has a particularly attractive and welcoming program. It’s above all an event where 10+m prototype and cruising or racing boats compete fiercely for four days during the Ascension weekend in the beautiful Hyeres Bay.

A number of new boats will be taking part this year including Mad IV, the Grand Soleil 50 of Welshman Clive Llewellyn. Philippe Saint-André will be sailing his Beneteau First 44.7, while Sarastro IV, is a new Elan 40 helmed by the owner Jean-Pierre Delmotte - a distinguished member of the International Yacht Club of Hyeres who will have Jean-Michel Russo calling tactics.

A number of 40 footers are entering including Régis Théolier on his new Hanse 40 who will be up against the IMX 40s and Beneteau First 40.7.

The Mumm 30 Miami, a future competitor of the Tour de France à la Voile sailing under the Monaco Yacht Club colours, will be helmed by Claude and Jean Rodelato. New to the Mumm the brothers are former winners of the J/24 Primo Cup.

The regatta will be the Mediterranean championship for the Swan 45. Leonardo Ferragamo, President of Nautor Swan, who as usual be steering his Swan 45 Cuordilerone during Porquerolles Week. As the class instructions indicates, the number of professional crew on board is limited to five.

Glynn William’s WISC (Wolf in Sheep’s clothing), currently North European champion, will be at Porquerolles with his usual crew including tactician Kevin Sproul of the Sobstad UK.

France’s participation will be equally challenging with crew like Eric Marris' Twins with French Melges 24 champion Laurent Pages on tactics, trimaran sailor Jean-Sebastien Ponce, Pierre Mas and Jacques Di Russo of Delta Voiles in Hyeres.
