At 11 o’clock Friday morning, the first of two races in program took place in the Italian IMS Championships 2003. The weather was characterized by a strong wind coming from 170° blowing at a speed of 24 knots.

It was a good race for X-Sport who won the first race. Second place for the multiple world champion Vasco Vascotto, on board of Brava Q8 and a great third place for the Rodman 42 World Cargo, an identical boat to Telefonica Movistar ( World and European Champion in IMS) who only managed 11th place. “The strong winds of today”-explains Giorgio Goldoni owner/helmsman of Telefonica Movistar made racing difficult today creating a few problems on board. We had a problem with the winch and had to dismantle it only a few minutes before the start.” Today a member of the team, Andrea Marengo, was also not able to race having broken his hand at the end of the long race. Andrea Marengo, at the halyards, is also taking care of the sails program on the boat. Andrea’s palmarès also includes his collaboration as sail-maker in the America’s Cup campaigns for Il Moro di Venezia and LunaRossa 2000.

For the B group, Città di Jesolo has taken over the overall results having won the first race of today. Second place goes to Don Alvaro and Pazza Idea. Fausto Pierobon’s team, Sagola came only in ninth place in the first race.

The second race sailed on Friday had an increase in wind which blew at almost 30 knots. Wind helmed by Lorenzo Bressani won this race. Second place went to X-Sport and third place to World Cargo. Improvement for Telefonica Movistar which arrived in fifth place today immediately following Brava Q8.

For group B, Don Alvaro followed by Coup de Couer and Città di Jesolo. Improvement also Sagola also in fifth place for the second race.

On Saturday only one race will be sailed thus concluding the Italian IMS Championship. At six o’clock the prizegiving will be held in the piazza of Porto San Rocco.
