News from the opening ceremony and yesterday's practise race

After a few days of measurement of the competing boats and crews the 25th J/24 Worlds were opened by the Major of Medemblik.

Being held in the castle of Radboud, the Dutch J/24Class president Remco vd Berg welcomed all the competitors. 66 boat out of 15 countries came to the Netherlands to compete for the world championship title.

Hot favorites are the team of Hyodo who are the 2001 Champions, the team of Albert Kooijman who know the Medemblik waters very well and the team of Lorenzo Bressani of Italy who has won the Europeans in Sardinia.

On sunday the practice race was sailed in typical dutch summer conditions. Winds were between 15 and 10 knots and the day started with sunshine although it became cloudy later that day.

The good form of the japanese 'SLED' team of Hyodo showed off. They won the race. Italian Elio Cavallo was second. Teams of Germany and Great Britain completed the top 4. The top 4 spots were taken by 4 different nations.

The first two races are scheduled for Monday
