Current leader in the 1720 sportboat nationals

Day two of the H.R. Owen 1720 Sportsboat UK National Championships dawned wet and grey with winds gusting up to 20 knots and shifting through 30 degrees.

Start line incidents in both Races 1 and 2 saw two boats retire damaged while a third managed running repairs so as not to miss a race.

Mike Budd’s Gul won the first race but the second belonged to King Quick helmed by Ruairidh Scott. Strong tide took the fleet over the line and forced a general recall in the third race of the day which was won by Glenn Bourke in Yachts and Yachting just ahead of Gul and local boat Textbook Manoeuvres helmed by Lee Martin of West Mersea.

26 boats from all over the UK are competing for the national title in a regatta jointly hosted by the Dabchicks Sailing Club and West Mersea Yacht Club.
