16 October will see the start of the Mumm 30s seventh K-Challenge Pro-Am Cup.
Among the competition in this event will be two boats from the K-Challenge team entered as part of their training for the next America’s Cup. K-Challenge is sponsor of the Pro-Am Cup this year. One of the boats will be skippered by America's Cup veteran John Cutler and the other by double Olympian and matchracer Thierry Peponnet, last year's winner.
Aside from K-Challenge will be teams from Belgium (T Services Interim/Region de Bruxelles), from United Kingdom, Israel, the Netherlands, Germany (Rainbow), and also a number of top competitors, including Armel Le Cleach’, winner of La Solitaire du Figaro, as well as all the Cap Sport team, who won the Tour de France à la Voile this summer.
21 boats are registered at the moment, ready to compete in the waters off Marseilles raced by sailors from different disciplines such as offshore sailing, America’s Cup, regattas.
The Pro-Am Cup was created in 1997 by K-Yachting. This regatta allows amateur skippers to fight alongside the world's top sailors. The event gathers Mumm 30 owners and professional skippers especially invited and selected. Past participants include Loïck Peyron, Franck Cammas, Bertrand Pacé and Jochen Schuemann.
The Pro-Am Cup shall be governed by the ISAF (International Sailing Federation) sailing rules, as well as the French Mumm 30 Class rules.
There will be two sets of results - the Pro-Am Cup for all the boats registered in the regatta, and the Amateur division for all the boats which has been given this status by K-Yachting.
