In Barcelona the Assa Abloy Racing Team appointed Guillermo Altadill as the latest addition to the crew. This multi talented Spaniard has a broad experience in ocean racing. Next to clocking up more than 180.000 nautical miles Guillermo is also the fastest man around the world sailing on Club Med with Grant Dalton in The Race. Next to that, Altadill also made his fame in open dinghies as Multihull Champion and coaching the Gold Medal Olympic team in 1996.

Guillermo Altadill has been on trial with the Assa Abloy Racing Team since Easter when the team competed in Spi Ouest, France. That was almost straight after finishing The Race with Club Med. Altadill commented on that, "After winning The Race a lot of people contacted me but this was my first choice. I trained with the Assa Abloy Racing Team and I think that I fit in well. I prefer this team as there are some good people behind it and in it, with the right approach on how to set up a winning team and boat. They have left no stone unturned so far to achieve what is needed."

The enthusiastic Spaniard continued almost straight away into this new challenge, after breaking the round the world record on Club Med. Why? "Well this is my life and what I can do well."

Skipper Roy Heiner comments on the selection, "When I signed up there were three crew members and now we are up to nine. And every new member that joins us has to be approved by all the crew. So Guillermo has the support of all of us. I am happy that we have him on the team with his extensive Southern Ocean experience. Combine that with his small boat skills and he will be a very valuable addition to the team."

Altadill is the ninth member to this multinational team that counts eight nationalities. The crew consits of:

Roy Heiner (NL) - Skipper
Mark Rudiger (USA) - Co-skipper and navigator
Guillermo Altadill (SPA) - Helmsman/trimmer
Klas Nylöf (SWE) - Helmsman/trimmer
Jason Carrington (UK) - Bowman/ helmsman
Sidney Gavignet (FRA) - Helmsman/trimmer
Mike Joubert (RSA) - Bowman/trimmer
Stu Wilson (NZL) - Trimmer and onboard sail maker
Richard Mason (NZL) - Trimmer, pit
