Meet Lisa McDonald

Lisa began sailing as a child and remembers her summers spent with friends in Newport. "That was in the heyday of the America's Cup in Newport, and a lot of my mother's friends were involved." She goes on: "when I think back to it I was pretty much surrounded by boats, but it wasn't until I was about 17 when I started working on boats as a summer job and I just thought it was great." A couple of English friends who were taking their boat down to the Caribbean and had just lost a crew asked her to go along.

Lisa's enthusiasm for the sport has grown and been nurtured in the years that followed. From leaving school and the States at the tender age of 17, Lisa lived and breathed boats for eight years, travelling the length and breadth of the world, pursuing her life on the ocean waves.
