Henri Lloyd today have opened a new flagship store in London's Carnaby Street, famous for its reputation during the ‘Swinging Sixties’ and currently once again becoming London’s ‘fashion capital’.

In 1963, around the time that Carnaby Street was the world showcase for contemporary fashion, Henri-Lloyd Limited was founded by Henri Strzelecki, a keen sailor who was quick to spot the potential which the newly developed Bri-Nylon fabric could have on the sailing market. From a converted chapel on the outskirts of Manchester, Henri developed a number of sportswear ‘firsts’ and technical innovations whilst building a world-wide reputation for quality and establishing Henri-Lloyd as the leader in technical sailing clothing.

The company entered the fashion arena in the 1980’s when the Milan Scooter Society, the Panninari, adopted a Henri-Lloyd sailing jacket as part of their ‘uniform’. The Consort Original, designed in 1965 and worn by Sir Francis Chichester on his epic global voyage, inspired a phenomenon which swept across Europe. Henri-Lloyd’s range of ocean inspired clothing and accessories quickly became essential and aspirational for Europe’s image conscious 18-35’s.

The 3000 sqft Carnaby Street store has been designed by international retail designers, Checkland Kindleysides. Though the design is contemporary, it has been influenced by Henri-Lloyd’s marine heritage, using a range of materials including cherry, elm, rubber and stainless steel together with items of chandlery and graphics depicting seascape and fashion images to illustrate the dual personality of the brand.

As well as housing the men’s and women’s fashion collections the store also offers the full range of core Henri-Lloyd Technical Marine Gear within a dedicated first floor department.

Commenting on the new store, Henri-Lloyd Joint Chief Executive, Paul Strzelecki said: "As a British brand with strong international exposure the choice of opening our flagship store in London, one of the worlds leading fashion capitals was a natural one. A key objective for Henri-Lloyd as we move forward is to ensure that we continue to deepen the consumer’s understanding of both our unique heritage and products. The Carnaby Street store allows all the Henri-Lloyd product ranges to be brought together under one roof to portray the real essence of the brand."
