Following the horrendous terrorist actions on 11 September, the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francico has cancelled racing for the Big Boat Series on both Thursday 14th and Friday 15th September to pay respect to the national loss of lives. Regatta activities scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, September 13 & 14 are also cancelled. Racing is expected to resume on Saturday and Sunday with registration beginning on Friday.
The St. Francis Yacht Club conducts over 90 days of racing in a year in San Francisco Bay against a backdrop reaching from the Golden Gate to Alcatraz to Telegraph Hill. On San Francisco Bay, the sea breeze often peaks at 25 knots, and tidal currents don't raise an eyebrow until they break four knots. It's a great place to host an event both for the competitors and the spectators as the boats can sail so close to the club you can almost touch them.
