Tacktick scooped the prestigeous overall DAME award yesterday at the 13th annual Design Awards at the Marine Equipment Trade Show in Amsterdam yesterday. The Hampshire-based company was announced the outright winner for its Micronet MN100R racing range of wireless wind, speed, depth, GPS and compass electronic instruments.
The DAME judges argued that Tacktick's technology revealed a design approach that is "disciplined to its brief, advanced and deserving of recognition". It was also recognised that Tacktick has applied serious design effort between prototype and production stages to bring this system to market as a strong and cohesive package.
Tacktick's success was shared by a number of UK companies receiving category awards and special mentions. Six products were selected as winners from six of the eight available categories, and of these three were UK companies. In addition, six UK companies received special mentions. A record 15 British companies had been shortlisted for the awards.
