Gales force postponements at dinghy championships

The gales sweeping the UK forced most dinghy championships to be put on hold yesterday

The gale force winds meant that most dinghy championships were forced to postpone, some for a second day, yesterday.
The inter14s at Pwllheli stayed ashore after the wind built to a solid Force 5 gusting 6. Although 14 sailing is a perfectly realistic proposition in this strength of breeze, the five-foot waves would have made things rather interesting and the general feeling in the dinghy park was that race officer Richard Tate had made the right decision to postpone to Wednesday.

But the 14s continue to push the technical envelope, see the Dave Spragg article.
The RS 400, 700 and 800 fleets were postponed, the second lost day for the RS700 and 800s, again sea conditions played a part in the decision.

The Dart 18s at Falmouth also waited for several hours before the plug was pulled.

The Albacores at Torbay managed one race before calling it a day, enough to complete their UK Nationals. Racing for the World title will continue on Thursday.
