madforsailing talks to French sailing legend Olivier de Kersauson about his new globe trotting tri

The plan
Currently K2000 is undergoing sea trials prior to Multiplast formally handing over the keys to de Kersauson in late September. De Kersauson then plans to carry out crew trials until November. There will be 12-14 crew on board based around his core duo of Didier Ragot and Yves Pouillaude.

The ambitious schedule involves going straight into a Jules Verne attempt in January or February next year. A few months ago prior to the start of The Race there was much talk about the giant cats making attempts on the Jules Verne Trophy this coming winter, but at the moment there seems to be very little action on this front with the recent breakage of Cam Lewis' Team Adventure and with PlayStation and Club Med both being up for sale. De Kersauson may end up trying to break his own record without any competition.

But there are many many more plans for the boat than just the Jules Verne. De Kersauson's campaign is called Grands Records because his aims involve cracking all the major records including the Transpac, New York to San Francisco, round Australia, round Britain and Ireland, the Route du The (Hong Kong to London), trans Med (from Marseilles to Carthage) and the Cowes-Dinard record currently held by Tracy Edwards' Royal & Sun Alliance.

Incredibly de Kersauson plans to sail around 50,000 miles a year in this boat.
