Former Pindar teammates Miranda Merron and Emma Richards report from the TJV monohull and multihull fleets still racing

Tuesday November 20th 2001, Author: Miranda Merron and Emma Richards, Location: United Kingdom
To end this sob story though, we have decided not to think of the week's struggle ahead while everyone else is finishing. We need to live hour by hour as we nurse the boat upwind while we look forward to the downwind sailing in a few days time, and sail to that finish line, knowing we have put everything into this race and not given up.
It was a struggle to get this monster boat to the start line ready to go with a few short months preparation and so we are going to get to that finish line!

We will need the help from those who read this mail though as it is a potentially soul destroying week ahead! We lack jokes, funny stories, and news of what is happening in the outside world where the carbon doesn't creak so loudly!

We are okay on diesel. We can ration out the food easily enough to last - the watermaker will hopefully be back in action in three days as we round Ascension (it doesn't work upwind) to replenish our supplies! We are looking forward to seeing that island that haunts us... But once round hopefully our moral will be on the up again.

Emma and Miki

This morning Pindar Systems still had 1,682 miles to go to the finish...
