The latest addition to the range of Snap Shackle Adaptors from Lewmar is a model to fit Lewmar’s 50mm Synchro and 40mm Synchro Control blocks. The innovative design of the Snap Shackle Adaptor combines the convenience of conventional snap shackles with the mobility of traditional screw pin D-shackles, increasing the choice and versatility of deck mounted blocks on any performance sailing boat or cruiser.
The result is that the user can now choose between fitting any standard block with either a D shackle for semi permanent mounting, or the new snap shackle for instant mobility. Lewmar’s Snap Shackle Adaptor range has complete synergy with the Lewmar Synchro Control Block range and no extra snap shackle fittings are needed. The ability to switch the shackle according to the application of the block therefore reduces the number of individual blocks that a boat now needs to carry.
An added feature of the tough stainless steel adaptor is its articulation along the line of the pin. This enables the shackle to articulate in any direction for accurate rope leading from deck rings and toe rails, a capability not provided by conventional snap shackles.
The 40/50mm Snap Shackle Adapter joins the rest of the current range, which is additionally available in 5, 6, and 9mm pin sizes, for 60, 72 and 90mm blocks. All will fit both the Ocean and Synchro block ranges, as well as similar blocks made by other manufacturers. The flexible choice will not only be highly convenient for boat owners, but will also enable retailers to hold reduced levels of stock as they will no longer need to carry two variants of the same block. Lewmar Part No. 29924050.
Deck organiser
Lewmar has introduced a deck organiser with 3 x 60mm sheaves on each level to provide a powerful 6-rope control system with the minimum of deck clutter.
Design is forward thinking and subtle to provide several practical benefits. The sheaves feature plain bearings to handle high loads and side thrust balls for fast low-load action, ensuring minimal friction especially at low loads, such as dropping sails and rapid hoisting. The outboard end of the unit has a deflector eye for lines coming from the foredeck back to the cockpit – therefore minimal deflection while the top of the unit is moulded to provide a styled, smooth finish, to minimise sail damage and the risk of tripping up (or toe damage!) . The middle and lower plates are fabricated in alloy for extra strength while the linked bearing posts ensure a very rigid structure.
The double decker organiser will appeal to builders and owners looking for a progressive and modern-thinking deck layout on both production yachts and custom layouts.
