Sir Robin Knox-Johnston confirms the route of this year's singlehanded round the world race

Thursday January 3rd 2002, Author: James Boyd, Location: Transoceanic
Entries in Around Alone as of 3 January 2002

The latest entry is Italian competitor Simone Bianchetti, who sailed the first leg of the event eight years ago and took part in the last Vendee Globe. He has since purchased the highly potent Lombard design, formerly Catherine Chabaud's Whirlpool. Also Alex Bennett is unlikely to be racing One Dream, One Mission as it was lost midway between the Canaries and Azores. Another interesting entry is that of South African John Martin, a veteran of these races. His Open 60 Allied Bank had to be abandoned in the 1990 race when it ran headlong into an iceberg.
