Summer wetsuit alternative
Tuesday February 27th 2007, Author: Gill, Location: United Kingdom
Gill Speedskins are an alternative to a lightweight wetsuit. Unlike neoprene, they are highly breathable, which makes them that much more comfortable to wear. They can be used throughout the year - ideal worn either on their own in warm conditions, or as a snug thermal layer under a drysuit in colder weather.
Made from the new waterproof, windproof and durable 3-layer softshell fabric, the ergonomic cut of the Gill Speedskin is designed to fit close to the body without impeding movement. The material has a unique fleecy backing to it, for additional warmth and comfort, and there’s also a special binding around the armholes and neck opening to prevent water coming in. The Men’s version has a full front zip, and the Women’s a full zip down the back; both feature an inner flap providing protection from the zip and increased comfort against the skin.
Also made from the same softshell material, the Thermal Dinghy Top is a new addition to the 2007 Gill Range. Sharing the same characteristics, the Thermal Dinghy Top is waterproof, windproof and breathable with a fleecy lining for extra comfort. Warmth is again a priority, as this provides ultimate protection against cold weather conditions. The high collar keeps sailors snug and sheltered from wind and spray, whilst the stretchy waistband provides an additional defence from the cold and wet, and prevents the Top from riding up.
