Harken have released new shoes, shorts and tops

Well known sailing equipment specialists, Harken, have released a number of new clothing and accessory products.

Footwear

First on the list are new pairs of trainers for men (Vortex and Valencia shoes) and women (Valencia shoes.) Both styles feature a number of technical features such as ‘Radial Traction Zones,’ essentially well thought-out grip on the sole and ‘Antibacterial Silver Woven Footbeds’ to kill off odour causing germs. Perhaps most usefully they have a one way drainage system, where water escapes through channels and drainage holes built into the sole of the shoe but is unable to enter. Also on the long list of innovations are ‘Non-marking, non-rusting components’ and for all the potential Wayne Rooneys out there ‘metatarsal support.’

Fleece

Harken say their new softshell fabric technology ‘brings together fleece insulation and a highly water resistant/breathable shell to create a high performance, low bulk technical garment.’ The outer shell is a tough abrasion resistant layer that is bonded to a breathable wind resistant film. The inside is a normal fleece material so the garment should offer a warm windproof mid layer top for chillier days. The softshell fleece is available as either a gillet or a standard long sleeved jacket in both men’s and women’s sizes.

Rash Vests

Popular with dinghy sailors rash vests are often worn underneath wetsuits to prevent chaffing or as a top alone on very hot days. With this in mind Harken have been careful to build panels that keep seams away from the wearers moving joints. Also the new range of rash vests all feature excellent UV protection at UPF 50+ and an anti-bacterial finish that kills bad odours.

Sailing Shorts

Harken’s performance-fit sailing shorts are made with durable stretch ripstop-nylon that should be comfortable when wet and quick drying. They feature all of the usual requirements, including: Hand pocket, cargo pockets and multi tool socket. They also feature the optional removable foam seat pad.
