Ukraine takes the lead

With predominantly light wind conditions the two first races got underway on the first day, Monday, of the 2006 Soling European Championship in Lake Balaton, Hungary.
The first race was a double triangle with a windward/leeward sausage, it started with a nine knot wind coming from the north. However, this reasonably stable wind began to swing west and decreased in strength. After two course changes the Slovenian boat sailed by Antoncic, Strakh and Perovic took the bullet home followed by the Ukranian team of Pichuguin, Timokhov and Chehalty, who return to Soling sailing after a long time away from the class. The German Marinepool team and 2005 European Champions, Koch, Koch and Bornemann, could not hold on to third place and finished fourth behind the Dutch team of Offermans, Dusee and Mosch.
The Second race started in lighter conditions from the West and. Pichuguin, Timokhov and Chehlatiy took victory in the race, closely followed by Koch, Koch and Bomemann and then the T-Mobile team, Wossala, Vezer and Nemeth. The Austrians Auteried, Kendler and Moser finished fourth.
