Unfortunately the last race was cancelled due to high winds although the top 10 sail-off did take place later in the day.

We finished 13th - an okay result but disappointed not to have made the top 10. We should have cracked that. Top 5 was definitely possible had we been a little more polished and maybe had a few breaks. The winner, Rohart, was in a different league, winning without having to sail the last race, even though it was non-discardable and double points. He is just that polished and complete. He was never slow, started well, fast downwind, smart, got a few breaks and that was that. Not that unusual.

Our performance was good but not polished, our speed was okay, very good at times but not complete across the range or around the course. We had three less than perfect starts but six excellent, low risk starts. Downwind we improved during the week learning from observation and comment from our coach Jean-Claude Vuithier. We could hold our own at the front of the fleet.

The three race day was pivotal and although we sailed well got the raw end of a shift on both first beats turning what looked like top five windward mark roundings into much worse. We weren't alone. Iain Percy also suffered similar fate. The day was marked by 50 degree wind shifts and winds ranging from 5-15 knots - very trick with 70 boats on a 1.8 mile course. In the last race we moved up and down the fleet, gaining and losing as many as 30 boats on a leg. In some ways we were fortunate to finish 28th in race 7.

David and I sailed the weekend in the Etchells, Florida State Champs and had a lot of fun with a new guy to sailing Kasper Christoffersen. Our boat (which none of us had ever seen) arrived the morning of the first race, having been caught up in US customs for a week. Getting some experienced help ringing it, we just made the first race and finished second That definitely brought a smile to our faces after a hectic morning! We went on to finish the regatta ninth and thoroughly enjoyed it.

We have a few weeks off now till the Bacardi Cup back out here in Miami. We will be spending some time with family, getting on top of the admin and spending a week Yngling coaching as well as maintaining the good work we have been doing in the gym. Always plenty to do!!

Thanks for the support.

Andy
