1.3 knots to go

Finian Maynard ups his own record in search of 50 knots

Monday April 11th 2005, Author: Andy Nicholson, Location: United Kingdom
Windsurfing speed sailor, Finian Maynard, has lodged a new record, subject to ratification, with the World Sailing Speed Record Council.

Recording a speed of 48.70 knots on the unique 'trenches' at Saintes Maries de la Mer in the South of France on Sunday he has upped his own record of 46.82 knots set in November last year. (See our interview with him here.)

Maynard now brings the elusive goal of 50 knots tantalisingly close.

Maynard, Irish born, and British Virgin Islands resident, shot into the news last year (below) when he finally broke the 11 year old outright speed sailing record of 46.52 knots held by the Australian C Class challenger Yellow Pages.
